My other "go to" is Jorge Serpa's marvelous "Slow Roads! Beautiful Drives Through Portugal for Cars & Motorcycles" (2011). If you are into history as I, I do recommend Cadogan Guide to Portugal by David J.J. Sadly, two of my "go to" travel books on Portugal are long out of print but possibly still available on Amazon or smaller out of print sources. We will be spending three nights in Beja. Not sure if it is going to be better than the edition I have but worth the short money to see if there is anything new. Being "addicted" to the Alentejo, I have ordered the new edition that should be arriving soon. One of my favorite travel guides is the Bradt Guide to the Alentejo by Alex Robinson and there is a new edition out. With the upswing of tourism in Portugal, you would think that there would be better coverage of some of the smaller places in Portugal. Yes, even one of favorites being the Lonely Planet guide is guilty of this. I went through many of my travel books and found most do recommend the same places and large portions of Portugal are not covered. Recently, there was a posting about getting out of the big tourist known places. I am always game to find new ones thus the reasoning for this post. I am a lover of books and have a rather large collection of books on/about Portugal. Sadly, I didn't bookmark these postings and searching hasn't done me much good to find it. I know we had a discussion on this a couple of years ago.
